Spring Wildlife Photography Workshop

Spring Wildlife Photography Workshop

Immerse yourself in the heart of Bulgaria’s Thracian Valley, a rich and biodiverse region shaped by the Maritsa River. This workshop offers photographers of all levels the opportunity to capture stunning images of a wide variety of birds, mammals, and other wildlife amidst picturesque flatlands, wetlands, and riverside forests. Whether you're a beginner eager to refine your skills or a seasoned photographer seeking unique subjects, this workshop provides unparalleled opportunities to explore the vibrant life of the area.

The core of the spring and summer workshops is centred around Bogdan Boev’s network of hides. Over the years, significant effort has gone into creating strategically placed hides in diverse habitats in the Maritsa basin, to maximise photography opportunities for target species. These hides allow for close-up wildlife photography with excellent lighting and scenic backdrops, ensuring you capture incredible shots of species in their natural environments.

Highlights

  • Seasonal Abundance: Witness and photograph vibrant songbirds such as European rollers, Eurasian hoopoes, and bee-eaters, as well as hawfinches, turtle doves, nightingales, woodpeckers and more (see full list of observed species at the bottom of the page).
  • Diverse Wildlife: Beyond songbirds, the area is home to reptiles, mammals, and birds of prey, adding variety and more opportunities for photography.
  • Expert Guidance: Benefit from the knowledge and guidance, combined with the good humour of the experienced photographer Bogdan Boev, throughout your workshop.
  • Comfortable Setup: Enjoy thoughtfully designed hides in prime locations, ensuring the best angles, background and light conditions for excellent photographic opportunities.
  • Scenic Add-ons: Optional visits to the Eastern Rhodopes and other unique photography locations provide additional opportunities to capture other rare species and enjoy beautiful landscapes.

Workshop Details

Duration and Group Size

  • Duration: The optimal length is 4-8 full photography days. This allows participants to familiarize themselves with all hides and then focus on preferred locations or target species.
  • Group Size: Small groups of 3-6 photographers ensure personalized attention and minimum animal disturbance from the hides for best photo opportunities.

Participants visit as part of pre-registered groups for the same duration. Individual bookings for workshop groups with available spaces are welcome, however, often participants gather other fellow photographers to join together as an exclusive group. Custom extensions or specific locations for particular target species may be accommodated, please contact for discussion. Ad hoc one- or two-day hide visits are occasionally possible for photographers with their own transportation.
